Data from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) yearbook 2024 show that, throughout the year, 6,160 people died – nor 16 deaths per day – and 54,526 were injured in accidents on federal highways from all over Brazil.
In all, 73,156 accidents were accounted for in 2024 on federal highways, which gives more than 200 occurrences per day.
In absolute numbers, the states of Minas Gerais, Bahia and Paraná had the largest number of deaths in these highways last year, there were 794 deaths in Minas, 619 in Bahia and 607 in Paraná.
The rear collisions lead the statistics of the types of accidents, with 13,960 records, 16,173 injured and 634 dead.
The occurrences involving passenger vehicles were the most resulted in deaths, with 2,110 fatalities throughout the year. Shortly thereafter, motorcycle accidents resulted in 2,024 deaths, while 599 people died of accidents involving trucks.
“The PRF answered 12,778 claims on BR-101, 4,375 of them in Santa Catarina. Already in BR-116 there were 11,478 cases, most, 3,478, in sections that cut São Paulo. Third is the BR-381, with 3,469 Sinstross. Of this total, 2,793 occurred in Minas Gerais,” said the PRF.
The yearbook also showed that accidents occurred in greater numbers between Fridays and Sundays between 17h and 19h.
Regarding the infraction notices, the PRF data showed that 9,483,949 infractions were recorded in 2024. “Among the most observed conducts are speeding (6,561,685), improper overtaking (301,513) and the non -use of the seat belt (216,267),” said the PRF.
In Rio de Janeiro, there were more than 2.1 million infractions last year by placing the state as the place where drivers most disobeyed traffic rules.
In second place is São Paulo, with almost 1.2 million assessments. The third position in the ranking is from Minas Gerais: 869,488 fined drivers.
Crime -fighting operations carried out by 2025 resulted in the seizure 808,223 tons of marijuana; 859,719 amphetamine units; 41,461.7 tons of cocaine; and 1,635.16 crack. In addition to drugs, 1,648 firearms and 67,893 ammunition were seized.
