This week Apple announced a new version of the Apple TV 4K set-top box, as well as an all-new Siri Remote with touchpad.
During the presentation, the manufacturer kept silent about the fact that the new remote control lost the functions that the original Siri Remote had. It lacks the accelerometer and gyroscope that allowed the original remote to be used as a game controller.
Due to the lack of an accelerometer and gyroscope, the new Siri Remote will not be compatible with Apple TV’s motion / tilt games. Instead, users will need to use the original Siri Remote or plug in an Apple-certified game controller.

A message was seen in the tvOS 14.5 firmware source code that confirms the previous information: “To play this game on Apple TV, you need to connect an Apple TV Remote (1st generation) or a compatible PlayStation, Xbox or MFi controller.”
Many users who play on Apple TV prefer to use a real game controller, so the lack of accelerometer and gyroscope in the new Siri Remote is unlikely to be an issue for most.
