About 150 cardinals are already in the Vatican after Pope Francis’ death

The Vatican said on Friday (25) that 149 cardinals are already gathered in the Holy See after Pope Francis’ death. However, they have not been informed how many of them are voters – that is, they are under 80 years old and can vote for the conclave.

In all, 135 cardinals are able to participate in the secret vote that will elect the next Pope. It must start among the May 6th and 11th. Meanwhile, they gather in meetings, masses and honors.

In addition, the faithful say goodbye to Francis in a funeral in the Basilica of St. Peter. About 150,000 people visited the ceremony by noon this Friday, local time (7am from Brasilia), according to the Vatican.

The ceremony ends this Friday at 19h, local time (14h of Brasilia). The Pontiff’s coffin will be closed today, around 15h, in Brasília time.

The funeral of Francisco will be held this Saturday (26) and should gather more than 200 thousand people, according to Italian authorities.
