A Ukrainian missile hit a ship at a Kerch shipyard in Crimea

On Saturday, the Ukrainian armed forces launched an attack with 15 cruise missiles against a shipyard in Kerch of the annexed by Russia its peninsula Crimeacausing damage to a ship, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Thirteen missiles were shot down by Russian air defense systemswhile one damaged a ship (s.b. which was not named), stated the laconic announcement of the Russian Ministry, which emphasizes that there were no casualties from the Ukrainian missile attack.

Unconfirmed Ukrainian sources report that the ship that was hit is the Russian cruiser Askold.

Ukraine’s Air Force Chief Mykola Oleschuk said the shipyard housed one of the most advanced ships in the Russian fleet, equipped with Kalibr missiles. “I hope another ship followed the Moskva”he wrote in a post on the Telegram platform, referring to the sinking of the Russian cruiser on April 14, 2022.

The Reuters news agency emphasizes that it is unable to verify the reports from Moscow and Kiev, nor the authenticity of the videos released on social networks showing a fire at the shipyard.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stressed that the enhanced capability of his country’s armed forces to strike against Russian warships in the Black Sea has hampered Moscow’s military operations and helped Kiev secure Ukrainian grain exports.
