The German company MNT introduced an unusual miniature laptop Pocket Reform, which stands out with literally every feature. Even the appearance is non-standard – the gadget has received a large thickness by modern standards, despite the clear emphasis on compactness.
One of the main features of MNT Pocket Reform is the modular processor and RAM. By default, the manufacturer offers the NXP i.MX8M Plus platform (4 × Cortex-A53 at 1.8 GHz, 4 or 8 GB DDR4 RAM, Vivante GC7000UL graphics and NPU), but users can choose other options:
- Raspberry Pi CM4 (4x Cortex-A72, 8GB DDR4 RAM, VideoCore graphics);
- NXP Layerscape LS1028A (2x Cortex-A72, 8GB or 16GB DDR4 RAM, Vivante GC7000UL graphics);
- Pine SOQuartz RK3566 (4x Cortex-A55, 8GB DDR4 RAM, Mali G52 graphics);
- FPGA AMD/Xilinx Kintex-7.
Another unusual characteristic is the use of an ortholinear keyboard, that is, a model with buttons exactly one above the other (rather than offset, as in typical keyboards). It is full-fledged, 60 keys with Kailh Choc White switches and multi-press support, and at the bottom there is a 10 mm trackball with four accompanying buttons. The screen is quite tiny: 7 inches with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. However, you can connect a monitor up to 4K.
The MNT Pocket Reform is preloaded with up to 128 GB of eMMC memory, there is a slot for NVMe SSD (up to 2 TB).
The weight varies depending on the modification, but the dimensions are unchanged – 20 × 12.6 × 4.5 cm. Wireless modules for WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0 fit into the case, as well as a slot for a SIM card or modem. Two lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 8000 mAh are charged via USB-C with Power Delivery support (there is also a second regular USB-C port). Other connectors are also not deprived: microSD, Micro HDMI, industrial Ethernet (with an adapter for RJ45).
The cost has not yet been announced, but the first sales should begin soon.
