The thousands of vaccinations in the sets of the “Peaky Blinders” series. The British open-air Black Country Living Museum, which served as the filming location for the series, will host a Covid-19 vaccination center from Monday 25 January, reports the BBC. The place, closed to tourists during confinement, will allow thousands of injections to be administered each week.
The Black Country Living Museum, located to the west of Birmingham, is an attraction that immerses its visitors in the town of Dudley, the birthplace of industrialization in the United Kingdom as it was at the turn of the 20th century. The museum was used for the shots of “Peaky Blinders”, a British series which tells the story of a family of criminals in the interwar period.
Dudley’s first vaccination center
If vaccination has already been implemented in the area, this will be Dudley’s first vaccination center. This vaccination center will complement the injections already organized by local general practitioners. Patients will be able to go there with a paper from the NHS (National Health Service), the country’s public health system.
Almost 100,000 injections have been given in Dudley and the surrounding area so far but this center “will be a game-changer,” said Nicholas Barlow, member of the Dudley Health Council. “The fact that the Black Country Living Museum becomes a center of vaccination will considerably increase the quantity of vaccines which we will be able to administer”, he welcomes to the BBC.
From cultural buildings to vaccination centers
“This will help protect people from this deadly virus faster,” he adds. Sally Robert, head nurse of the Black Country, believes that the progress on immunization is “incredible” in the region. She says she is “delighted” that this vaccination center “which will be able to provide thousands of more vaccines” is opening.
This is not the first time that a British cultural or historic building has opened its doors to participate in the national vaccination effort, such as Salisbury Cathedral where injections are administered to the sound of the organ…
