The celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, a historic date that takes place this Saturday, July 9, move cities across the state of São Paulo. The events have an audience again, which has not happened in the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the capital, the celebrations focus on the Ibirapuera Obelisk , where the remains of nine more ex-combatants will be buried. In the countryside, more than a hundred cities hold ceremonies and parades in honor of the heroes of the São Paulo war.
On the morning of this Friday (8), military police staged a staging in the Salão dos Passos Perdidos of the Palace of Justice, in downtown São Paulo, in honor of the ex-combatants. The parade this Saturday (9) starts at 9 am in the Obelisk of Parque Ibirapuera, with the participation of several units of the Military Police, members of the Veterans Society of 32 – MMDC and authorities.
There will be an exchange of the honorary command of the symbolic Constitutionalist Army, with Professor Adilson César taking over from the current commander, Maura Oliveira.
“As we no longer have ex-combatants alive, those who take charge are their descendants,” explained Rodrigo Gutenberg, from the MMDC.
Then, the Obelisk of the remains of nine former combatants admitted to the 32 heroes gallery will be entered. According to Gutenberg, the remains were transferred from cemeteries where the bodies were buried. Names will only be revealed during the event.
The Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), in the capital, opens, also this Saturday, a free exhibition in honor of the 90th anniversary of the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932.
Sample 1932: Revolution, Constituent Assembly and Citizenship – The strength of an idea l, will occupy until the 11th part of the 2nd floor of the museum. According to MIS, the exhibition was designed and conceived to be immersive and contemplative, with pieces and scenarios recreated from research and photos, which didactically illustrate the Brazilian and world panorama in the 1930s, transporting the visitor to the 90s. days of the revolution.
In addition to seeing original historical items, photographs, installations and texts that elucidate issues of the time, the visitor will have the opportunity to experience everything that caused the conflict to its historical, technological and political developments generated by the Constitutionalist movement – the objective of the exhibition is to make the subject most accessible to the public. The museology is by Beatriz Cruz and the architecture by Icaro Heuza.
The content recalls the death of the four young people known as “MMDC”, mentions the alternation of the “Coffee with Milk Policy” and goes through the modernization of São Paulo’s industries.
The exhibition also highlights the influence of radio as a means of communication and information from the front, gives a glimpse of what the trenches and their war “apparatus” were, introduces the visitor to the armored train, – terror of the Getulist troops strategically positioned at the entrance of the “ Mantiqueira Tunnel”.
The “Proeza Paulista”, a daring act committed by pilots from São Paulo who, when flying over Rio de Janeiro, instead of bombing the country’s capital, dropped leaflets explaining the Constitutionalist movement to cariocas, is also portrayed. Visitors will have access to an interactive map to know the places where conflicts took place and visualize the movements of the troops involved.
Trench with war bread
Drinking coffee in a trench, accompanied by “war bread”, a recipe for the bread widely used to feed troops in the trenches and the population during the 1932 conflict, are some of the programs planned for the 1932/2022 Experience event, which begins in the 9th and runs until the 2nd of October, in Itapira, in the interior of São Paulo.
A mega-exhibition of objects, posters and documents will occupy the premises of the Hotel Fazenda Juca Mulato, an area that was the scene of fighting during the Revolution.
The main collection, from the private collection of researcher Cláudio Luiz Senise, includes the original posters of the Gold Campaign, all models of alliances manufactured to be given in exchange for donations, original São Paulo flags from the period, cigarette packs distributed on the fighting fronts. and helmets with trench gear.
Among the unique pieces, a silver bar made with leftovers from the campaign, in addition to all the banknotes and coins produced in São Paulo during the Revolution.
Visitors can also visit Route 32, a 70 km cycle route through farms and fields where battles took place. During the exhibition, the project 100 years will be launched, with a countdown to the year 2032.
In Itu, an exhibition dedicated to the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932 will be opened on the 9th, organized by the Museu Republicano, of the University of São Paulo (USP), in partnership with the Museu da Música – Itu, based on textual documents, newspapers, books and pieces from the collection of the two institutions linked to this historical period.
The exhibition will be at the Centro de Estudos do Museu Republicano, which occupies the Casa do Barão, a historic building, on Rua Barão do Itaim, the same as the museum.
Pieces of the collection were donated by family members of about 300 young people who joined together to form the 3rd Battalion of Volunteer Hunters from São Paulo and fight in the revolution. From the uniform and helmet that were used by the soldiers to the scores and hymns for the troops composed during the period, the exhibition will also present how the participation of women in the fight was. At the opening, at 10 am, there will be a reading of poems by Guilherme de Almeida, the poet of 32.
In Piracicaba, there will be a civic act and the opening of the exhibition “Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932: 90 years of History”, at 10 am, at the Prudente de Moraes Historical and Pedagogical Museum.
At the end of the event, there will be a civic parade towards Praça José Bonifácio, downtown, for a tribute to the heroes of 1932 at the Monument to the Constitutionalist Soldier. In Campinas, the 9th of July will be celebrated with a civic military ceremony, at 9 am, in the Mausoleum of Praça Voluntários de 32.

A farm occupied by the troops of Getúlio Vargas in 32 will be the stage for the celebrations in Jaguariúna. At Fazenda da Barra, troops from Minas Gerais set up a headquarters that served as a base for attacks on Campinas and other cities in the region.
The 13th Mechanized Infantry Brigade will present war equipment, including the Jaguariúna armored vehicle. There will be an exhibition of old military vehicles and war artifacts, in addition to the collection of collectors from the Revolution.
A traditional rock festival in Cruzeiro, this year will be the Revolution Rock Festival, in honor of the 90 years of 32. This weekend, five rock and blues bands will perform at Aldeia do Rock, with evocations of the São Paulo war. . The Associação Brasileira de Preservação Ferroviária (Brazilian Association of Railway Preservation) will carry out a technical tour of a locomotive through the restored urban section of the Minas-Rio railway, through which the “armored train” of the São Paulo people passed in 1932.
In Areias, during Mob Lit 2022, a literary fair with lectures and shows, the exhibition “Achados da Révolution de 32” will open at 10 am, in Praça Bom Jesus, with the participation of researcher Erike Silva, Caçador de Histórias. There will also be ceremonies at the Mirante da Revolution, inaugurated this year by the city hall.
