88% of SP residents are in favor of PM body cameras, says Datafolha

Datafolha research released this Sunday (17) shows that 88% of residents of the city of São Paulo support the use of cameras on uniforms by police officers (PM). 8% said they were against it, another 3% said they were indifferent.

The survey interviewed 1,090 residents of the city of São Paulo over the age of 16, between March 7th and 8th. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points.

For 82% of those interviewed, the use of cameras on uniforms would greatly contribute to preventing violent actions by bad police officers; for 11%, it would contribute little; for 5%, it would contribute nothing; 1% did not know how to answer.

Still according to the survey, 71% think that cameras would contribute greatly to reducing violence in general; 17% would contribute little; 11% would contribute nothing.

The survey also measured that 69% of respondents think that cameras would contribute greatly to reducing police deaths; 16% would contribute little; 13%, nothing; 1% did not know how to answer.

Datafolha made selections based on political spectrum, gender and ethnicity. The survey showed that whether among women, men, whites, browns, blacks, Bolsonarists and PT members, support never falls below 79% (margins of error vary).

For 81% of those interviewed, all police officers should wear cameras on their uniforms; for 7%, there are more police officers than today, but not all; for 4%, only those who already use it today; 7%, no police.
