A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Port-Vila, Vanuatu, this Tuesday (17), local time, said the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km, the USGS said. The US tsunami warning system said there is a tsunami signal issued after the earthquake.
Vanuatu is a small country made up of around 80 islands in the south Pacific Ocean, almost 2,000 kilometers from Australia.
