62,600 jobs lost in December, worse than expected

He Net change in employment in Canada in December was negative at 62,600. The market consensus was for a negative but less magnitude reading of 27,500. In November there had been a positive variation of 62,100. It is the first drop in employment since April.

The detail highlights that the jobs part time were reduced by 99,000 while those of full time increased by 36,500.

The unemployment rate it rose from 8.5% to 8.6%, in line with expectations. The labor participation rate fell from 65.1% to 64.9%. The wages for now, they rose 5.43% in December compared to a year ago.

USD / CAD fell after the Canadian report and the US non-farm payroll report, the latter showing figures below expectations, and the first negative since April. The price was testing levels below 1.2680, still above the lows of the day.
