6 Grammy categories you don't know about yet, but should

In the next Sunday (04) happens to 66th Grammy Awards , which is known for being the most important award in the music world. The ceremony, which will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles (USA), will be broadcast live from 9:30 pm on the TNT television channel and HBO Max streaming.

In all there will be 94 categories , three of which are unpublished : Best African Musical Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording. The categories are separated into 11 fields (fields, in free translation).

According to Billboard, there were 26 fields and the reduction was made to provide greater flexibility in voting.

In addition to the main categories such as Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist, the Grammys also highlight more specific categories.

Best Recording Package

The Grammy in this category is awarded for the visual appearance of an album and given to the art director of the winning album.

The cover design, graphic arts and photographs made for the album count as requirements in this category. In the 10th edition of the Grammy Awards, the album “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”, by The Beatles, took the prize.

Best Spoken Poetry Album

The category was included in last year's edition and recognizes excellence in spoken albums specific to the performance of poetry with or without music.

The work “The Poet Who Sat by the Door” by J. Ivy won the statuette in 2023. The North American poet competes again this year, alongside 4 other artists.

According to the billboardit was thanks to Ivy's leadership and a petition supported by more than 100 poets, that the Recording Academy announced the addition of the Best Spoken Word Poetry Album category in June 2022.

Best Immersive Audio Album

Prize given for vocal or instrumental albums of any genre. To compete, the album must be commercially released for physical sale or on a qualified streaming or download service and must provide a new immersive mix of four or more channels.

In this case, the statuette is given to the immersive mixing engineer, the immersive producer (if any) and the immersive mastering engineer (if any).

“The Diary Of Alicia Keys” by the American singer is competing in the category this year, as is the soundtrack for the game God Of War Ragnarök, among others.

Best Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media

In 2023, a category was also created that recognizes excellence in soundtrack albums composed predominantly of original scores and created specifically for, or as a complement to, a current video game or other interactive media. In this case, the prize goes to the composer.

In the last edition, the winner was “Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarok”. This year, games such as “Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II”, “Hogwarts Legacy” and “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” compete for the statuette.

Best Audiobook, Narration and Storytelling Recording

Viola Davis is the owner of the current award that honors the best narrations and recordings of storytelling and audiobooks. She was awarded the statuette for narrating her own book “Finding Me: A Memoir”.

This year, big personalities are competing for the Grammys. “Big Tree” with narration by Meryl Streep, “It's Ok To Be Angry About Capitalism” from the book by US Senator Bernie Sanders and “The Light We Carry: Overcoming In Uncertain Times”, a book by former first lady Michelle Obama are among those nominated.

Best Historical Album

Presented since 1979, this award recognizes achievements in audio restoration. One of the first Grammys offered in this category was awarded to Billie Holiday, for the album “Billie Holiday – Giants Of Jazz”, in the 22nd edition of the award.

This year “Fragments – Time Out Of Mind Sessions (1996-1997): The Bootleg Series, Vol. 17”, Bob Dylan's album is competing in this category alongside four other albums.
