City of São Paulo receives 5G this Thursday (4); see what changes with technology

A month after its debut in Brazil, 5G arrives in São Paulo this Thursday (4). The capital of São Paulo is the fifth city to have the technology in operation in the country. Previously, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, João Pessoa and Porto Alegre implemented the latest generation of mobile internet in their territories.

As of this Thursday, providers that acquired the 3.5 GHz band in the 5G bid, which took place at the end of last year, can now activate the stations with the technology.

In this first phase, in São Paulo, at least 462 stations would be needed until September 29, a date that was also established by Anatel so that all Brazilian capitals have the technology released.

Anatel said that until this Tuesday (2) it received 1,378 licensing requests in the 3.5 GHz band in the city of São Paulo – almost triple what was initially considered necessary.

Lula and Janones meet this Thursday (4) and can seal an alliance in the 1st round

Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and presidential candidate André Janones (Avante) meet this Thursday (4th) to discuss a possible alliance in the first round. Over the past few weeks, the two have spoken on the phone and exchanged nods on Twitter.

On July 29, Janones admitted that he would not oppose withdrawing the candidacy “if the government’s plan with chances of victory, comes to cover these proposals that are dear to me”. Avante has already agreed to support PT.

The meeting between the candidates to the Plateau will be held in São Paulo, at 15:00. As the analyst of CNN Gustavo Uribe, Janones will bring Lula a list of proposals to be incorporated into the PT government program. On the other hand, the federal deputy would give up his candidacy in support of Lula.

Copom raises Selic by 0.5 point, to 13.75% per year, the same level as December 2016

The Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) of the Central Bank (BC) announced this Wednesday (3) a rise of 0.5 percentage point in the Selic. As a result, the basic interest rate in the economy went from 13.25% to 13.75% per year, the same level as in December 2016.

The decision was unanimous and was in line with general market expectations. In a statement, the committee leaves the door open for another high, of lesser magnitude, in September .

“The Committee will assess the need for a minor residual adjustment at its next meeting. The Copom emphasizes that it will remain vigilant and that future monetary policy steps may be adjusted to ensure the convergence of inflation to its targets”, he says.

Senate approves MP that changes food aid rules and regulates telework

The Senate plenary approved, this Wednesday (3), a Provisional Measure (MP) that changes rules for granting food aid to workers and regulates telework adopted by companies. The matter now follows the presidential sanction.

According to the approved text, the food stamp cannot be spent on other activities other than the purchase of food. The value of the voucher must be used to pay for meals in restaurants and similar establishments or for the purchase of foodstuffs in commercial establishments, says the text.

The proposal approved by the senators allows the worker to withdraw the unused balance of the food stamp at the end of 60 days.

According to the proposal, free portability of the service will also be possible, if the worker wants to change the flag of the card, as of May 1, 2023.

The text also prohibits companies that provide food stamps from giving discounts to those who hire them.

China begins ‘unprecedented’ military exercises around Taiwan

China’s People’s Liberation Army launched unprecedented military exercises in six areas surrounding Taiwan on Thursday, Chinese state television reported. Activities include live ammunition firing in the waters and airspace around Taiwan.

The exercises come a day after a visit by the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to the island that Beijing considers Chinese territory and are expected to end next Sunday (7), according to the report on state television.

China’s Eastern Command said it completed several rounds of conventional missiles in waters off Taiwan’s east coast on Thursday as part of planned exercises. The island’s Defense Ministry said projectiles were also fired in the waters to the northeast and southwest.
