The ranking of the best chefs in the world is based on a previous list of 200 names, which contains a mix between 100 novice chefs and the 100 chefs considered the best in the world in the last edition.
The final list is created based on the secret votes of the current top 100 chefs, the other 100 candidates and also based on the choices of 150 professionals linked to the gastronomic sector, such as journalists, critics and photographers.
The most weighty votes are from the chefs, who represent 70% of the final result, in which, according to the award, it is a way of “honoring their peers”. Chefs, however, cannot vote for themselves.
Voting takes place by online survey, where members receive a unique link to the entire process. Each person can vote for 10 chefs and the points system is from 10 to 100. Voting starts in May and participants have one month to make their choices.
The sixth edition of the award was held in Madrid and also featured panels and gastronomic demonstrations between the 18th and 20th of September.
