30 years of “The Lion King”: see all productions in the franchise

The first film of “The Lion King” This Saturday (15), it celebrates 30 years of launch. An instant success for Disney, the animation about the adventures of the young lion Simba (heir to the great king Mufasa) has yielded, over the years, sequels, a live-action film and even an animated series.

On the franchise’s anniversary, there’s nothing better than celebrating by watching one of the productions derived from “The Lion King”. With that in mind, the CNN listed everything that has ever come out of the universe that can be watched. Check out!

“The Lion King” (1994)

According to the official synopsis, the film shows the adventures of a young lion named Simba, the heir of his father, Mufasa. The little one’s evil uncle, Scar, plans to steal Mufasa’s throne, luring father and son into an ambush. Simba manages to escape and only Mufasa dies. With the help of his friends, Timon and Pumbaa, he reappears as an adult to reclaim his land, which was stolen.

“The Lion King 2: Simba’s Kingdom” (1998)

Kiara, Simba’s daughter and heir to the kingdom, disobeys her father when he tries to stop her from getting into trouble. However, the young woman ends up meeting Kovu and, together, they get involved in some complicated situations.

“The Lion King 3 – Hakuna Matata” (2004)

This version of “The Lion King” is explored from the point of view of the characters Timon and Pumbaa and shows how the two became friends. When Timon leaves his colony because he can’t fit in, he meets the lonely Pumbaa. Looking for a new home, they get involved in adventures and meet Simba, who is exiled and needs to fight for the Lion King crown.

“The Lion Guard” (2016-2019)

The three-season animated series follows the adventures of Simba’s son Kion as he becomes the leader of a group of animals known as the Lion Guard.

“The Lion King” (2019)

The live-action remake brings back the events of the first film in the franchise.

What is the next release of “The Lion King”?

The next film in the universe already has a release date. The new production will be a live-action feature film focused on the character Mufasa. Titled “Mufasa: The Lion King”, the film opens in theaters on December 19 and features Beyoncé, Blue Ivy and Donald Glover in the voice cast.
