The Department of Historical Heritage (DPH) certified the “critical risk level” of the mansion located on Rua Artur Prado, number 376, in Bela Vista, downtown São Paulo.
The city council, through the municipal department of culture, confirmed the irreversible damage through classification.
On January 13th, the construction had already been banned by the Civil Defense after a prior assessment. The city of São Paulo was awaiting the report on the structural conditions of the construction.
The mansion built in 1913 was listed in 2002 by the Municipal Council for the Preservation of Historical, Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the City of São Paulo (Conpresp).
With the report, the DPH defended the application of article 26, of law 16402, by excluding the property from being classified as Zepec (Special Cultural Preservation Zone), enabling the demolition of the mansion.
Also according to the city hall, the president of Conpresp, Ricardo Ferrari Nogueira, spoke out for the adoption of the necessary material measures for the property to be demolished, and the agenda will be voted on at the next council meeting.
