19-year-old diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in China

Surprising news has gone around the world, as a young man just 19 years old was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, something that is not common to happen. This disease is characterized by memory loss. However, the likelihood of this happening to people is generally higher in later life, making him the first youngest person in the world with this disorder.

According to the information, the Capital Medical University, in Beijing, China, diagnosed the case of a 19-year-old young man who, from the age of 17, began to experience memory deterioration and loss of cognitive abilities, that is, he presented alterations in thinking, learning, judging and decision making.

As his cognitive deterioration worsened, the young man was forced to abandon his pre-university studies. Within a year of being referred to the clinic, his memory loss was both short- and long-term, and his immediate cognitive ability was 87 percent lower than his peers.

Another of the characteristics that has attracted the most attention is that this boy has no family history that has developed the condition. In addition, the young man does not present any other disease that could be related, such as infections or head injuries, which would explain his sudden deterioration.

It should be noted that, for now, this case remains an absolute medical mystery and, according to specialists, it is unlikely to be the last, since early cases of Alzheimer’s in younger patients are on the rise.

Remember that Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and is the most common form of dementia in older adults. Regularly, some of the initial symptoms are temporal-spatial disorientation, difficulty performing activities of daily living, as well as difficulty remembering recent information, language and communication problems.
