The victims of a juvenile gangster who shot a 5-year-old girl are relieved after he was sentenced to 50 years. 16-year-old Noah Ney was sentenced as an adult for the 2022 shooting after the court ruled that he knows the difference between right and wrong. In fact, the judges believe that the boy has “no chance of being cured”.
Ney was jailed on Monday after two months earlier he escaped from the juvenile detention center where he was held, assaulted staff, flooded his cell and smeared the walls with feces. He was arrested three days later. The assistant district attorney who recommended jailing the 16-year-old said he has records showing that every effort made to address his delinquent behavior fell flat. “I have records in a packet thicker than a dictionary that show the attempts at treatment that he rejected, running away or attacking the staff who were there to help him,” said Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Morgan Medders.

Ney already had a criminal record dating back to his high school days when he shot a five-year-old girl last April, according to the Daily Mail. The court was told the 16-year-old was a member of a gang called the Hoover Crips. The 5-year-old was playing inside her home when Ney drove by in a stolen car and fired at her, wounding her in the neck and shoulder. “There were a lot of people there during the drive-by shooting,” Medders told the Tulsa court. “The five-year-old was taken to hospital due to the severity of her injuries and if the bullet had gone two centimeters further he could have died.”
The court heard that both of Ney’s parents have criminal records and his father has been repeatedly imprisoned. His mother admitted that her son was cruel to both people and animals, but said she blamed herself for his behavior. His aunt said he had been neglected all his life. A neighbor testified that he caused chaos in the neighborhood, carried guns and knives, and often threatened neighbors with them.
Ney was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to 12 charges involving firearms, drugs, gangs, theft and assault. The judge scheduled a judicial review of his sentence in 2028, when it could be reduced if he shows remorse and reform.
