The National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) approved the readjustment of 15.5% of the plans for the period from May 2022 to April 2023. This is the biggest increase since the beginning of the historical series, in 2000 . In an interview with CNN Paulo Rebello Filho, director-president and managing director of the agency, stated that the increase is due to the return of assistance expenses.
In 2020, when the pandemic entered Brazil, there was a reduction in the use of assistance expenses, and the reflection of this, explained the specialist, was a greater negative index in history – an adjustment of minus 8.19%.
“The advance of the vaccine and the economy turning around again, people started to go to the emergency rooms and hospitals, and there was a resumption of the use of assistance expenses and the reflex was the increase of 15.5%”.
Despite the percentage, operators can charge lower amounts. And, in case there is any higher charge, the ANS management director recommended that people get in touch with the plans and, if the problem is not resolved, call 0800 701 9656.
He also suggests that the person who has difficulty paying the ticket, can enter the ANS website and look for other operators that offer a more “suitable for the pocket” value. Porting takes about 10 days.
The price adjustment will only occur for individual and family plans. In other words, the collectives are outside this readjustment percentage.
