100 rectors vs. Trump: threatens university independence

More than 100 presidents of universities, colleges and academic companies in the US today issued a joint announcement declaring their opposition to the way in which the Donald Trump government treats Higher Education Foundations, after Harvard in the Harvard. The announcement – signed by, among other things, by the Rectors of Princeton, Brown, the University of Hawaii and the State College of Contetikt – reflects “the unprecedented government transcendence and the political intervention that are now at risk”. “We are open to constructive reforms and are not opposed to legal government supervision,” they say. “However, we have to oppose excessive government intervention in the lives of those who learn, live and work in our campuses,” they add.
